Self-proclaimed 'geeks' get fired up in the quad

The quad decoration came after Firefox announced it was holding a contest to celebrate its 50 millionth download. Users sent in things they had made to honor the browser, like posters, hats or even cakes featuring the Firefox logo. The group of friends decided they wanted to do something special and were kicking around ideas.

"We had a couple of ideas -- movies, posters ..." Polvi said. Then they suggested drawing the logo in the quad using sidewalk chalk, which drew laughs from the group at first.

"It was sort of one of those things we didn't think we'd actually do," Polvi said. But as time went on, the group became increasingly excited about the project. By that Friday, they were "itching to do it."

They determined that it would be far too expensive to buy the amount of sidewalk chalk it would take to pull off the prank, so they found a recipe for paint that used cornstarch and Kool-Aid.
